essential Oil Spotlight

Bergamot is one my must have Essential oils. I know I say this a lot but they have so many  useful essential oils that I can't help myself!!  Bergamot health benefits can be attributed to its properties as a deodorant, vulnerary, vermifuge, antibiotic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, and a sedative. It also acts as an analgesic, antidepressant, disinfectant, febrifuge, cicatrizant, and a digestive substance.

I use it for stress/anxiety.  I do a roller mix of Lavender,  Bergamot, and my favorite carrier oil and keep it on my desk. I can feel the calming effects almost instantly.    This roller is good for reducing my heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety within minutes. Obviously it does not take the place of any of my meds but it helps me keep these things under control even more.

Not only does it help tremendously but it smells great too. With a slight citrus scent. It's not an overwhelming smell which is always a plus for me. I  hate something that smells too strong!

Now  -- I am not a doctor so this is just an observation/opinion of mine. Also remember essential oils do work differently for everyone

Essential Oil Spotlight

If I am being honest, I was never one to worry about going all natural until  few years ago. I started trying to get rid of all toxins in my house but let's face it, that's not as easy as it seems. So instead of trying to eliminate everything at once. I am taking one step at a time.  Plus essential oils have been used throughout history for many, many reasons.

I stopped using plug ins because I had one that smelled amazing  but ATE the paint off my walls. No kidding completely ate all the paint from my wall down to the baseboard. I was mad at first about the wall but if it eats paint what is it doing to us? I know we don't eat it but we do inhale the fragrance that generates from it. I also touched the oils. So those were GONE and that's one less toxin in my house.  Recently they have been linked to causing cancer..

I still enjoy candles occasionally but they make me sneeze and are very strong. What's great about  essential oils is I control the strength of the scent (by the amount of drops). I also find even though it is very noticeable the fragrance is subtle

Orange is also a mood booster.. Not sure how or why but if I  put a few drops of Orange EO on my wrist (or behind my ear) or in my diffuser it creates a calming effect.  Plus when diffused the room smells amazing.

I use Orange Essential Oil as an all natural teeth whitener. I HATE the strips. They taste gross, take too long, never stay on, and cause sores in my mouth. Orange taste great and all I have to do is put a few drops in my toothpaste and boom. NATURAL whitener.

As with anything different people have different effects.. The opinion expressed is mine alone and based on my experience.

DIY Shaving Cream with Essential Oils

Image result for young living diy shaving cream

I'm all for using natural products but I'm not about spending a ton. So I DIY a LOT.. I call it going toxin free, frugally. Here is a great DIY recipe because Shaving cream as a ton of toxins.. crazy isn't it? I love this shaving cream. Super easy to make .. warning... Shea Butter stinks.. who would have thought??  But other than that no complaints.  I got an extremely Smooth shave.

Since we can no longer bundle our bodies in warm clothes weekly shaving is back on the radar, ugh.  For smooth, moisturized skin, it’s necessary to find an amazing shaving cream, but that can be challenging when so many commercial products include harmful ingredients or excessive foam that makes it tough to see what you’re doing!

I've found a substitute for traditional shaving cream that’s all natural, light, and super silky. The best part is it moisturizes your skin while you shave—and you can create it yourself! Enjoy a product that’s easy to use, easy to apply, and easier to love!

Here’s how to make it:

Yield: 2 1/2 cups shaving cream

Ingredients

1 cup virgin coconut oil
1 cup shea butter
Essential oil combination below or 20–30 drops of essential oils

Instructions:

In a small pot, combine coconut oil and shea butter on medium heat.
Once melted, remove from heat and add essential oils. Mix well.
Let cool in fridge for 30–45 minutes or until mixture is no longer clear. It should have a soft texture.
Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, whip product for about 2–3 minutes or until it looks like foam and forms peaks.
Store in a glass jar at room temperature.

Spice it up with these scent combinations:

Cool Refreshmint
Rosemary Essential Oil RecipesExperience this soothing, herbaceous blend with a hint of mint that’ll keep you smelling clean and fresh.

  • 10 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 5 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil

Floral Femininity
Jasmine Essential OilBring out your feminine side with this candied floral blend, perfect for the summertime.

  • 7 drops Cedarwood essential oil

Oh-Natur-al
Eucalyptus radiata essential oilFor an earthy fragrance, experience the essence of floral fields and a clean aroma in this carefully curated blend.

  • 10 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 7 drops Sandalwood essential oil
  • 3 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil

FYI: Men, are you in need of a cleaner shave? Try our Shutran™ Shave Cream!Image result for young living diy shaving cream

Tips:

  1.  To keep your razor from clogging, rinse it under warm or hot water after 2–3 strokes for a clean shave. I also dabbed my razor on the towel.
  2. The tub may become slippery with excessive use. We suggest sitting on the side of the tub when shaving your legs; it’s comfortable that way, too!  The shower was very slippery but I wiped it down and it was fine.
  3. Run water above 76 degrees for 30–60 seconds so your drain doesn’t clog. I don't like cold showers so I doubt my water will my water be less than 76 degrees.

Identify the Hidden Toxins in YOUR Home

DID YOU KNOW?

The average American home contains more than 1,000 different chemicals. (EPA)

Of the chemicals found in personal care products: 884 are toxic, 146 cause tumors, 218 cause reproductive complications, 778 cause acute toxicity, 314 cause biological mutations, 376 cause skin and eye irritations.

Asthma was once a very rare disease. Now the condition is extremely common, the asthma rate has tripled in the last 20 years with nearly 30 million Americans currently afflicted. In one decade, there has been a 42% increase in asthma (29% for men, 82% for women). The higher rate for women is believed to be due to women’s longer exposure times to household chemicals.

The think Dirty app is one of my FAVES -- It's disgusting when I find out my favorite bath wash is high is cancer causing agents or my favorite cleaner is high in toxins that cause reproductive issues. But it also helps me take control and kick those products to the curb!!!

There are more than 3 million poisonings every year.

Household cleaners are the number one cause of poisoning of children. Liquid dish soap is the leading cause of poisonings in the home for children under the age of six (over 2.1 million accidental poisonings per year). Most brands of liquid dish soap contain Formaldehyde and ammonia.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that nearly 30 cancer-causing chemicals were detectable in the fat tissues of literally every American today.

Just reducing (not eliminating) environmental carcinogens alone would save at least 50,000 lives from cancer annually. (Dr. Lee Davis, former advisor to the Secretary of Health)

2. Over 150 chemicals commonly found in homes have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer, and psychological abnormalities. (Consumer Product Safety Commission)

3. Toxic chemicals in household cleaners are three times more likely to cause cancer than air pollution. (EPA)

want to be a DIY'er ?? I have an amazing recipe for laundry Soap.

I LOVE my dryer balls. I use Purification.

4. Most homes have airborne concentrations of hazardous chemicals that are three to 70 times higher indoors than outdoors. (EPA)

5. Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who work outside of the home. The higher death rate is believed to be due to daily exposure to chemicals found in ordinary household products. (Toronto Indoor Air Commission)
6. In the past 14 years, there has been a 75% increase in asthma; 29% for men; 71% for women. The higher rate for women is believed to be due to women’s longer exposure times to household chemicals. (Center for Disease Control)

7. The personal care products we put on our skin and hair create possible toxic exposures through skin absorption. These include soaps, lotions, cosmetics, shampoos, deodorants and other common products. (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) 90% of health problems caused by chemicals are through the inhalation of chemical vapors and absorption of chemical particles. However, many warning labels refer only to toxic hazards caused by ingestion of a chemical.

9. It's sad to think about but we can't even trust our foods anymore! The chemicals for killing weeds is harmful, plus pesticide those are full of toxins.

What is an Essential Oil?

I'm going backwards a little. Here is some information that I found extremely helpful

This is going to be an ongoing series for a week or more this is Post #1. I hope you find the information as useful as I do!

So what is an essential oil?

Essential oils are the most powerful part of the plant. They are the aromatic liquids found within shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, resins, and seeds. Some people like to call essential oils “nature’s living energy” because they contain unique constituents that provide a host of benefits. Plant juice works, too! ;)

Most essential oils are extracted from plant sources using steam distillation and are highly concentrated, making them far more potent than dried botanicals. Essential oils are volatile, which means that the scent of the oil rises quickly into the air. They are also versatile, with a wide variety of uses. Some people use essential oils to enliven an environment, support different body systems, or just for their great scents.

In humans, they provide support for EVERY SYSTEM in the body: your skeletal system, your muscular system, circulatory system, your muscular system, circulatory system, endocrine system and your hormones, respiratory system and immune system. They support brain health and healthy weight. They are used extensively for emotions and for spiritual support in your prayer life. An oil in a diffuser can soothe a child’s tough day at school and provide a calming effect when you’ve had a stressful day at work.

Oils can be used as an alternative to cleaning chemicals in the home. You can literally start swapping out every single chemical cleaning toxin in your home to live a purer lifestyle, and you can do it without breaking the bank!! There are about 300 oils on the earth; but you only need 10-20 to build a good first aid kit. However you choose to use essential oils, chances are someone else has tried that same use in the past. If you still don’t know where to start, rest assured that each essential oil is labeled with instructions for use and our team has lots of resources with ideas and examples of using these!
