Trying a new hairstyle can be fun and exciting, especially when showing off a new cut or color. But some days we need to just get up and go. So how can we look effortlessly chic fast? Madison Reed has the perfect styles just for us:

The Effortless Top Knot
A top knot is one popular hairstyle for women who are perpetually on-the-go but still want to look put together. This classic hairstyle only takes about 5 minutes to create, and is perfect for those in-between days where there isn’t enough time for a wash, and not even a dry shampoo can save it. Want a little extra volume? Try using a sock or a scrunchie bun on the inside of the knot for that extra elegant and work-ready look.

The Sweet Side Braid
This look works especially well in warmer months. A side braid can help keep you cool from the heat—and stylish with a cool vibe. Just start with dry hair that is completely knot-free. Then create a deep side part with your fingers and braid away. This effortless look works every time.

The Super-Quick Ponytail
A ponytail can be classic and sleek, or look messy and undone with a little tease. Either way, you'll look timeless and chic, and be ready to walk out the door in seconds. Try the Madison Reed Style and Tame set for lightweight, frizz-free hold and smooth shine all day long.

Kisspat @ 6 Most popular colors Hair Chalk Review

I have talked a little bit about how much I would like colorful hair.  I think it's super cute but unfortunately my job will not allow me to have hair the color that I want. So when I was chosen to review Kisspat Hair Chalk I was very excited. It is a great way to temporarily have colorful hair any time I want.

The set comes with six colors blue, purple, orange, green, pink, and red.  Those are the most popular hair colors at this time so really they are the only six I need. Being basically art chalk, they are super easy to use. The instructions say we the piece of hair and apply the color but you can also we the chalk to apply color. Wetting the chalk opposed to the hair is much more messy because the chalk got all over my hands. But it washed off easily.

It applies smoothly and evenly after some work. I mean I had to go over the same piece of hair a few times before I had the amount of color I wanted. But once I was done it was very pretty. The color is no BOLD like I expected so that made it look like a dye job ( I would have said natural but I have not seen pink hair come natural to any body)  not some spray color that looks like paint. Also it's not as time consuming or messy as hair dye. I saw a girl that looked like she was turning into a grape. She said her dye went all over and stained her skin!

Depending on your hair color and the color chalk you choose, the color can be very visible. It stayed on all day until I washed it out. It only took one wash to come out with no trace. I love that it is not messy once in my hair. It doesn't rub off and it doesn't make my hair feel like chalk or straw.

My children cannot wait until summer to use these chalks. They want their hair different colors so bad. Really we don't' have to wait until summer because these wash out so easily.  We will have so much fun with these. The possibilities are limited to your imagination. And as easy as they are to use you will be inspired to try different looks constantly.

I would recommend trying the Kisspat Hair Chalk to anyone who wants to experience colored hair but is afraid to commit to something permanent like dye. This is the perfect, fun solution. I know you are going to want to buy your own set so check it out here
I received this product complimentary in exchange for my honest opinion but the opinion expressed is all mine. Regardless I only recommend products I feel are good for my readers.

Five Ways to Get Better Hair Color

Five Ways to Get Better Hair Color
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.
Coloring your hair is a great way to refresh your look. The more you understand it, the more control you’ll have over the results. Our friends at Madison Reed have five easy tips to get and keep better hair color.
Better Color
1. Just the Roots
Permanent hair color works by opening your hair cuticle, lifting out the current color, and depositing a new one. If you repeat this process over and over on the same hair, it will begin to lose protein and become more porous. This affects how your hair color applications turn out: porous hair will take on a lot of color easily, but not hold on to it well. If your hair gets really dark when you first color and then fades very quickly, you have porous hair.
The best way to prevent this is by only coloring your roots, the new hair growth, after your initial application of a new color or shade. That way, you will avoid reprocessing hair that has already been colored. Wait until you can see a clear band of outgrowth for a more accurate application, about every 3-4 weeks. Overlapping when touching up can cause variations in color. If you’re worried about your roots showing between applications, use Root Touch Up to get great color coverage that lasts from shampoo to shampoo.
To refresh color on your lengths and ends, pull permanent color through your hair every fourth or fifth coloring session. Or you can refresh with semi-permanent color, which corrects tone and acts as a long-lasting stain on hair that has already been opened.
2. Gloss it Up
Semi-permanent color, also known as hair gloss, is a beautiful hair multi-tasker! You can also use clear gloss to deep condition and add light-reflecting shine, or tinted shades to brighten faded color and add shine, tone and dimension. Check out all the newColor Reviving Gloss from Madison Reed - available in 8 great shades.
3. Use it or Lose It
I know what you’re thinking: will I have to throw away all that extra hair color if I only color my roots? This is very important: only mix the developer and color that you are using immediately. Do not keep any color that has been mixed with developer.
When they are mixed together, it sets off a chemical reaction. Mixed color will not be effective, and it can also be dangerous to store.
Now for the good news. Unmixed, both developer and color have a longer shelf life: 3 years unopened and 6 months after package has been opened. Just be sure to keep them separate until you’re ready to use them!
4. Cut the Harsh Chemicals
A healthier formula makes all the difference when frequently coloring your hair. Harsh chemicals damage hair, making it stripped, dry, brittle, and dull. Color that is free of ammonia, resorcinol, and PPD is much easier on the scalp and hair shaft. That’s why the Madison Reed Radiant Color Kit is free of those harmful ingredients and packed with nourishing elements that repair and strengthen hair, leaving it soft, shiny, and bouncy.
5. Protect Your Color
Picture your hair color as physical pigments that need help to stay in your hair. Madison Reed's nourishing color enhancing Shampoo and Conditioner Set is designed to extend the life of hair color by being more gentle and healthier for your hair. This enables the color pigments to stay longer because they’re not being stripped out of your hair. Over time, using haircare that repairs and protects your hair also helps it become less porous (remember my explanation at the top?). All of these things work together to help your hair look and feel better the more you use healthier products!
What helpful tips I love Madison Reed hair color it is all natural and this is the first time I have ever seen that in a hair color. It has no smell which is great.

Hair How To - How and When To Use Hair Gloss

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.
At some point, every great beauty secret becomes common knowledge. It begins with a few people who suddenly gain a radiant glow overnight. Friends compliment… and then ask how they did it. More people try the beauty secret and get the same reaction. Rinse and repeat. Until we don’t remember how we ever did without it.
Madison Reed Hair Gloss
Hair gloss is the beauty secret that people are discovering now. Also known as semi-permanent color, hair gloss actually comes in clear and tinted shades, all of which add shine and double as deep conditioning treatments. It’s incredibly easy to use, and it helps all hair types look and feel more beautiful.
In fact, the versatility of hair gloss is why people get confused. Madison Reed wants to help you discover this brand new beauty secret by making it easy to understand how you can use it. Here’s everything you need to know about the different ways you can use gloss, sorted by hair color and whether you already color or highlight your hair!
If You Color Your Hair
  • Maintain color and improve results over time
  • Refresh faded lengths and ends
  • Deepen or darken color
  • Correct yellow and red tones that make hair look brassy
  • Add smoothness and shine
  • Deeply condition hair
Why hair gloss is great for you:
Permanent color works by opening your hair shaft to remove natural hair pigments and insert new color pigments. This is great when you’ve just started to color. When you’ve already colored your hair, those strands have been through the permanent process and are already receptive to color, so you can use gloss to maintain it.
On porous hair (you can tell if your hair gets really dark when you first color and then fades very quickly), gloss can actually last longer than permanent color because the color absorbs into the hair and works as a stain. All without opening your hair further (which makes color fade faster), stopping the cycle of coloring more and more to combat fading.
Color Reviving Gloss also doubles as a deep conditioning treatment that makes your hair healthier and able to hold color longer. And it adds a high-gloss shine shows off all colors in their best light. Everything works together to make your hair look and feel better over time!
How to get the benefits:
1. Choose the right color. Hair gloss results depend on the underlying color. So read below for your best choices based on hair color or call the Color Crew, a team of certified colorists and professional stylists who listen carefully and tailor suggestions based on your preferences and hair.
2. Apply permanent color only to roots and hair that has not been colored.
3. Apply matching gloss to the lengths and ends that you’ve colored in the past.
4. Follow instructions to finish hair color process and style as normal.
5. Get ready for questions about your new beauty secret!
If You Highlight Your Hair
  • Refresh over-bleached or faded lengths and ends
  • Correct yellow tones that make highlights look brassy
  • Change or deepen highlights to blend more smoothly with hair color
  • Add smoothness and shine
  • Deeply condition hair
Highlighted hair behaves differently from the rest of your hair because it’s been treated differently. For some people, highlights may have been overly bleached, creating too-light streaks throughout the hair. Even highlights that start out flattering will fade over time and begin to look unnaturally light or unflatteringly yellow. That’s because natural yellow pigments remain in hair after lightening. Hair color adjusts the color by layering violet and ash tones on top to counteract the yellow. When the color fades from highlighted hair, the yellow begins to show again.
Similar to color-treated hair, strands are already receptive to color, so you can use gloss to correct and maintain the tone that you want. You can choose to either counteract the yellow tones without changing the color of your highlights or move towards a more even, overall color.
Color Reviving Gloss also doubles as a deep conditioning treatment which repairs damage caused by bleaching or more harsh methods of lightening hair. This makes your hair healthier and able to hold color longer, which stops the cycle of fading and coloring more and more often. The added high-gloss shine also gives your hair the natural illusion of highlights because it reflects light.
2. Follow instructions to apply and style as normal.
3. Get ready for questions about your new beauty secret!
If You Keep Your Hair Natural
  • Try a new hair color with no permanent color or structural change to your hair
  • Counteract yellow tones in natural gray or white hair
  • Use clear gloss for all the benefits without a color change
  • Add smoothness and shine
  • Deeply condition hair
There are a number of reasons that people don’t color their hair. Some want to experiment with new looks but aren’t ready to make a big, long-term change. Gloss, also known as semi-permanent color, is great in those cases because you can layer smoky, red, or gold tones on top of your hair color for different effects that wash out within 8 shampoos.
For those who celebrate their gray or white hair, gloss can correct the tone of hair to be more flattering without changing the color. Prosecco will add a soft champagne blonde tone that complements warm skin tones, while cool violet Crema will neutralize yellow tones for a silvery color that complements cool skin tones.
Last but not least, all shades of Color Reviving Gloss double as a deep conditioning treatment and add incredible high-gloss shine. You can get all those benefits without changing hair color by using clear Glassa. All these options open up a whole new world for people who have never thought about coloring their hair before!
How to get the benefits:
1. Choose the right color. Hair gloss results depend on the underlying color. So read below for your best choices based on hair color or call the Color Crew, a team of certified colorists and professional stylists who listen carefully and tailor suggestions based on your preferences and hair.
2. Follow instructions to apply and style as normal.
3. Get ready for questions about your new beauty secret!
Madison Reed also offers free consultations with the Color Crew, a team of certified colorists and professional stylists who listen carefully and tailor suggestions based on your preferences and hair. Call, email, or chat them to get personalized hair recommendations from experts who care!

These are great tips I have never used hair gloss but I will have to check into some. Madison Reed gives has an amazing color crew that help with any questions you have.

Hair Color Made Simple: A DIY Check List

Coloring your hair yourself can be intimidating — and we’re not pretending otherwise. Many of us leave it to the experts for that reason. It’s also why Madison Reed was started — to demystify at-home hair color, so it’s a cinch to do on your own. Madison Reed's color kit ships with the essentials; plus a few extras to ensure your experience is convenient, relaxing and even a little bit glam. To use a cooking analogy (they’re big food enthusiasts), it’s like having the vegetables peeled and spices measured before you cook. The prep work is already done for you, so there’s no fumbling. No mess. No learning curve.
DIY Hair Color Checklist
Get It Together
This handy checklist — most of it’s already in the Madison Reed Radiant Color Kit — takes the hard out of hair color for the easiest salon-quality results you can get at home.
Barrier Cream (Included)
Some people use vaseline, but Madison Reed includes our own color protection formula. Apply this along the hairline to keep dye off your skin. Don’t forget easy-to-miss spots like the back of your neck and top of your ears.
Activator Bottle (Included)
Easy to squeeze? Precise nozzle? Check and check! In soft plastic with a tip applicator, and a screw top, this tool makes anyone a pro.
Hair Color (Included)
It’s ammonia-free, and not only safe, but also scent free. No one will know your gorgeous color came from a bottle.
Two Pairs of Gloves (Included)
Form-fitting, high enough to cover your wrists, and in dye-camoflaging black, our gloves are awesome. You get not one, but two pairs; one set to protect hands while applying color, plus an additional set for rinsing in the shower — so no dirty gloves will ever have to touch and stain your counter.
Cap (Included)
Not your finest fashion moment, but if you’re concerned about guarding against stains while hair is processing, this is perfect.
Cleansing Wipe (Included)
Residue on your ears is a tell-tale sign you’ve been coloring hair. Use these after to get ride of the evidence. Don’t forget the back of your ears!
Shampoo & Conditioner (Included)
For your final step, wash and nourish hair with Madison Reed’s ultra-mild formulas free of sulfates and parabens.
Towel
Since our formula is cream based and has the consistency of a deep conditioner, we don’t anticipate much dripping. For beginners, it’s still a nice security measure against mess until you get used to the process.
Helpful for securing hair into four sections; you can also use rubber bands or hair ties.
Wide-tooth Comb (in Madison Reed Coloring Accessory Kit)
Using a comb or fingers, take color through before putting on a cap.
Button Down Shirt (or smock from Madison Reed Coloring Accessory Kit)
Short of coloring, ahem, in the buff, this is the next best thing to keep your other clothes dye-free. For super fans, they now have zip-up Madison Reed Salon Smock.
Glass of Wine (Optional)
Why not make the wait a happy (half) hour?

Is Stress making your hair gray??

Is Stress Giving You Gray Hair?
(Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links)

My mother used to point to her graying head of hair, and say to me and my two sisters we were responsible for it. I never felt the guilty party, but what was impressed on my sullen teenage brain was the link between stress and gray hair. The memory haunted me when I discovered a rogue clump of white hair around my forehead, that seemingly appeared overnight. I recalled my looming deadlines, late nights, and run-ins with a few strong personalities. Was stress making me turn gray?
I reminded myself to stay calm, and did what everyone in our modern age does, I went straight to the Internet for answers and found more anecdotal evidence. Witness how President Obama and President Bush turned gray as their terms progressed. Heavy (and silver) is the head who wears the crown. Legend has it, Marie Antoinette’s locks turned gray the night before her date with the guillotine.
Yet, when scientists and doctors are asked whether stress causes the acceleration of gray hair, you won’t get a definitive answer. Most experts say the connection between stress and graying is a myth, though extreme stress may cause a hair loss event (the condition is known as telogen effluvium, but that is a different area of investigation).
One of the reasons aging, not stress, has been attributed to graying is because the rate in which we lose pigments is slow and steady. Hair grows about half an inch per month and the lifespan of a strand is about two to three years. This cycle may get disrupted during physiological stress, such as illness, drastic weight loss, or childbirth, but psychologically-derived stress is too temporary to change hair color.
If not stress, what causes hair to go gray? This much we know, hair color is produced by melanin, and as we age, we produce less of it. The rate of our melanin production is determined by genetics. Blaming your parents, in this context, would not only be scientifically accurate, but also productive. You can gauge when you’ll begin to gray by finding out what age it happened to your parents.
The good news: concern for your children, your high-pressure career, and other anxiety triggers are not causing or accelerating your change in color. Stress still is linked to wrinkles and hair loss (plus it’s unhealthy), but in the area of hair color, the bottom line is, it’s not a factor.
Another upside, if you’re reading this blog, you can cover grays quite easily and painlessly with Madison Reed. Now is the perfect time to try Madison Reed's healthier for you color! Happy October! $10 off your first purchase at MadisonReed.com - non-damaging hair color Yes that's a real thing

5 Hair-Damaging Chemicals in Hair Color
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links

In the world of hair color there are quite a few choices, but not many of them good. It’s as if the drugstore box colors and other online brands have dropped the “care” from hair care. Focusing instead on making the least expensive product that fries your hair and doesn’t take your health in consideration at all.

Madison Reed

Here are five hair-damaging chemicals found in most hair dyes:

1. Ammonia / Ammonium Hydroxide:

From our inception we created a formula that does not need ammonia. Other colors use it to increase shelf life, add hair pH, and blast open the hair shaft so their color can penetrate the cuticle.

Ammonia is harsh on hair leaving it dull and limp
Responsible for the pungent smell of most hair dyes
Increases hair porosity, which weakens hair causing frizz and split ends, and leads to color fading
Exposure to ammonia fumes can irritate skin, eyes, throat, and lungs, causing watery eyes, itchy scalps, coughing, and burning
2. Resorcinol:

A common ingredient in many hair colors, resorcinol is used as a dye. Our formula doesn’t need resorcinol.

Resorcinol is frequent cause of allergic reactions to hair dye
Can be toxic to the immune system
3. PPD (para-phenylenediamine):

A pigment used to create darker shades. We’ve eliminated PPD from all of our colors and instead use a safer alternative to create our rich, dark shades.

A high skin sensitizer, PPD is proven to trigger allergic reactions to hair dye which can result in severe dermatitis, swelling, eye irritation, and tearing

The EPA warns that long-term exposure can lead to asthma, gastritis, renal failure, vertigo, tremors, convulsions, and coma in humans

4. Ethanol Alcohol (isopropyl alcohol):

Known as Alcohol Denat, it’s used in the dye absorption process. We’ve replaced this alcohol with a naturally derived alternative that doesn’t dry hair the way ethanol does.

Ethanol Alcohol is often the cause of dried out hair after dyeing
5. Parabens:

Known to be a controversial preservative, parabens are said to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi. We don’t add parabens to our formulas.

Parabens have little evidence to support their effectiveness
We care what we put in your hair, that’s why Madison Reed has eliminated these ingredients from our hair color formula.

We re-engineered hair color by replacing harsh ingredients that are traditionally used in the coloring process with ingredients that are gentler on your hair and leave it healthier with longer lasting, salon-quality results.

What are you waiting for? Now is the perfect time to try Madison Reed's healthier for you color! Happy October! Take $10 off your first purchase of Madison Reed hair color - just use the offer code OCTOBERLOVE at checkout.

Madison Reed Flashsale 50% off

Sometimes we forget that looking good on the outside has a lot to do with what we put on the inside. So here are Twelve Hair Healthy Foods:

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.

Next time you’re tackling the “what’s-for-dinner” question, make it easy with this list of hair-healthy foods courtesy of Madison Reed. It turns out most not only boost growth and shine, they also pack a walloping nutritional punch. Kale yeah.

Carrots
Most people cite sweet potatoes as the best source of vitamin A (aka beta-carotene) which is, among other things, necessary for skin and vision health. It’s also essential for sebum production, which conditions your scalp and hair. If it’s difficult to think of sweet potatoes beyond Thanksgiving, the versatile carrot is a good alternative and easy to fit into your regular diet. Just two raw baby carrots exceeds your regular daily intake of vitamin A. They also make any salad brighter and more delicious.

Kale
This super-green is like a multi-vitamin for your hair. One cup of the vegetable contains your daily allowance of beta-carotene for cell growth and collagen-boosting vitamin C. It also helps replenish your body’s iron reserve, which promotes blood circulation. What’s more a combination of omega fatty acids, 3 and 6, when together strengthens strands and increases the rate of hair growth. For newbies, just remember to massage the tough, fibrous leaves before cooking. It’s the crucial step that endears people to kale.

Greek Yogurt
Besides being creamy and almost unbelievably low in fat, Greek yogurt is packed with shiny hair nutrients: vitamin D for strong follicles, protein, pantothenic acid, which is frizz-fighting vitamin B6, and zinc.

Berries
In addition to adding pretty color to your plate, berries are full of Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that protects against wrinkles, it also helps your body absorb iron more effectively—good news for nourished follicles—and helps in the production of collagen, great for skin’s elasticity and capillaries that deliver nutrients to your hair.

Red Peppers
Irresistibly crunchy and impressive when stuffed, they’re also a rich—and unexpected–source of vitamin C. A half cup contains 95 mg, about one fifth of the daily recommended 500 mg of vitamin C.

Eggs
Give new life to brittle hair with eggs for breakfast. There are about as many beauty benefits to eggs as there are ways to cook them. Eggs are a great source of biotin, the B vitamin responsible for fast Rapunzel-esque hair growth. They also help the body store up iron for circulation for follicle health and contain zinc, protein, and selenium.

Shellfish
Oysters contain 493% of your daily zinc requirement, which is why they’re often recommended to combat hair loss. Zinc, a mineral not stored in your body, is vital for a conditioned scalp and strong hair. If you’re not in the mood to slurp oysters regularly, any kind of shellfish will serve you well. You can also get zinc through eggs, beef, and yogurt.

Protein
Hair is 97% protein, so it’s a no brainer that meat, poultry, and beans pump up hair growth. Pork tenderloin, in particular, has the beautifying vitamin B family. Beef is full of iron. Poultry, like chicken and turkey, is a good source of lean protein.

Salmon
Famously known for its omega-3 fatty acids, wild-caught salmon is a chic choice for beauty-loving gourmets. Good for a well-balanced scalp and loaded with protein, iron, and vitamin B, it is also a cinch to make. Try Bon Appetit’s decadently savory slow-roasted recipe that feeds a crowd in style.

Nuts
Another reliable and delicious source of omega-3, nuts of all kinds help to keep hair glossy and scalps moisturized and flake-free.

Lentils
A hearty source of B vitamins, namely biotin and folic acid, lentils promote healthy and fast-growing hair by supplying oxygen to follicles and renewing cells.

Water
Don’t forget to hydrate! Replenish from the inside out with eight cups of water a day. H2O keeps hair supple and bouncy, so it’s less prone to breakage and split ends.

Being a bit lazy about blow drying and styling my hair I'm a sucker for a fast, easy updo. But I want to look and feel classy as well. Here are some great tips from Madison Reed.
Autumn is fast approaching and it’s all about ease and nonchalant simplicity. According to Madison Reed, top looks this fall include; twisted and fly away top knots; sexy, sixties style bouffants; creative braids; easy, loose mat waves; sleek center pats; and bobby pins galore!
Bobby Pins: Bobby Pins are coming out of hiding! Use them instead of barrettes to create beautiful art styles with impeccable hold power and infinite interest.
Mat Waves: The wave of fall for long locks is casual and elegant in subdued, natural shades with just a touch of gold, effortless and beautiful.
Top Knots: For a practical work day style or a dramatic elegant evening look, the top knot is the way to go. Throw in a braid or two, let it fly away or twist it into a sleek coil. Keep it high and keep it simple.
Center Part: A crisp center part is a powerful look this season. It commands attention and suggests a total clarity of intention. It’s a high impact style and with just a little effort you can break away from your “comfortable” parting and dramatically refresh your look!
Creative Braids: The hottest trend this fall is the creative braid. It is the most versatile, interesting, and fun style of the season. You can braid to the side, tie them, french, fishtail, crooked, milkmaid and everything in between. Don’t be afraid to play and innovate!
Sixties Bouffant: Break out your back combing brush and give it a retro lift! You can go big for a striking and sexy nest or just give it a little bump up for a voluptuous vintage look.
