I quit smoking for this?

Okay smokers how many times have you heard you need to quit that, it's bad for your health. Or you will feel so much better if you quit. I'm hear to tell you people are full of BS.. no not really but man I wondered for a while after I quit.

The first week after I quit on top of withdrawals, cravings, moodiness, and whatever else quitting threw my way my asthma got WORSE. How in the world can that be the case. I had my asthma very well under control, I was only using my preventive once a day and it I was fine. So quitting smoking I wouldn't need it at all right? WRONG... I was using my preventive twice a day and my rescue inhaler maybe once a day. I needed the nebulizer once during that week as well. I did some research and there is an additive in cigarettes that open your bronchial tubes so it helps asthma. Crazy isn't it.. why did I quit smoking again?

My asthma started to get better thank God but then my allergies started to get horrible I couldn't stop sneezing. I had a terrible time but of course I am allergic to air sometimes but wow. This is not what I expected. I started taking and antihistamine and I'm doing better but not a 100% but better. Come to find out when your cilia hairs are paralyzed they don't fight allergens so quitting made them worse at first.  Why did I quit smoking again? At this rate I may live longer but I will be miserable the entire time.

It has been three months since I quit smoking and my blood pressure is much lower, my heart beat is much slower, my perfume and lipstick last much longer, I don't have to leave the room to smoke, and y children don't see my with a cigarette in my mouth.  I guess that is why I quit smoking! If you are trying to quit don't give up. I have talked to people and they got very sick after quitting but the health benefits are worth it if YOU are ready. There are days when I would love nothing more than to go outside and smoke but I've come this far. I do have to admit it is terribly hard when I smell a cigarette in a parking but I think I'll make it .

Thank you for listening to my rant. Please excuse me that there are no pictures I'm not strong enough to google cigarette pics.  Any former smokers have a story to share?

  1. Congrats on quitting and finding the positives throughout it all!! My dad has been a heavy smoker his whole life so I know the struggles with quitting. It is not as easy as people like to think it is. :)

  2. Being a chain smoker since I was young, and it was really hard for me to kick the habit. I associated almost all of my activities with smoking and have lost all hope. I learned about vaping and gave it try. It turned out to be the best decision I made. Slowly now I have been losing the urge to both vape and smoke. I'm looking forward to the day I no longer crave for either.
