What is a coral reef?
A coral reef is a community of fish, plants, and other creatures.
They are made up of tiny animals called “polyps” that have hard shells. Unlike other animals, polyps attach to one place and don’t move around.
What do coral reefs do?
Coral reefs protect the shore from large waves. They also provide food and a safe home for many other creatures.
Coral reefs help keep the ocean healthy so it’s important not to disturb or move the coral. You can always admire coral without disturbing it.
What is the Great Barrier Reef?
The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest coral reef system in the world. Astronauts can see it from space because it is so large!
Over 1,500 types of fish live in the Great Barrier Reef. It is home to many animals like turtles, sea horses, stingrays, sharks and coral.
I am fascinated by the Ocean so this kit would be so much fun for me and the children.
